My Poems

Poetry, as an art form predates literacy, has been used to transmit cultural information and life experiences. When you explore your mind, you will get inspired...
Share your joy, share your rhythm.

Don't Quit

Don't quit when the tide is lowest,
For it's just about to turn;
Don't Quit over doubts and questions,
For there's something you may learn.
Don't quit when the night is darkest,
For it's just a while 'til dawn;
Don't quit when you've run the farthest,
For the race is almost won.
Don't quit when the hill is steepest,
For your goal is almost nigh;
Don't quit, for you're not a failure
Until you fail to try.

About Arms Length

When all around you is looking grim
And your aching comes from deep within
Nobody knows the pain you bare
when your dreams are shattered, and you’re in despair

But right behind you, about arm’s length
Is your guardian angel to give you strength
And about this time, he moves closer to you
Placing an arm around your shoulder to help you through

Although you can’t see him, his presence is known
It’s that feeling, that now you’re not alone
Your spirits lift, way up on high
And soon you feel like your able to fly

What happened to make you feel like this
A hand on your shoulder, a gentle kiss
Your angel steps back, he’s now at arms length
He’s done his job, he’s given you STRENGTH!

After the rains the flowers bloom

When your life seems as bleak as the darkest night
And you just want your troubles to up and take flight
When your emotions are drained or you’re full of pain
And the tears pour out, just like the rain

When your life appears to be falling apart
And nothing can aid your aching heart
God in his wisdom sent me you
A shoulder to cry on, to help me through

An angel to stand by my side
Someone in whom I can confide
For at the end of the tunnel there is a light
A hand to guide me in my plight

For out of the darkness shines the moon
And after the rain the flowers bloom
Now my life is full of zest
For I surely am the one that’s blessed

A DOZEN ROSES

I got a dozen roses from a friend the other day
But I only have one left, for I gave them all away.

I gave one to my sister, who to me is very dear
In the hopes that it will bring to her a little floral cheer.

I took one to a friend who's not feeling very well
The flower or the visit, which helped more I could not tell.

The rest went to the ones who've helped me in so many ways
They have been a cheerful presence on my dreariest of days.

The roses were so pretty, I just could not keep them all
Except one single rosebud, standing beautiful and tall.

My friend gave me the flowers to help brighten up my day
But the biggest joy I received was giving them away.

Make today a Wonderful Day

"I woke up early today, excited over all I get to do before the clock strikes midnight. I have responsibilities to fulfill today. I am important. My job is to choose what kind of day I am going to have.

Today I can complain because the weather is rainy or I can be thankful that the grass is getting watered for free.

Today I can feel sad that I don't have more money or I can be glad that my finances encourage me to plan my purchases wisely and guide me away from waste.

Today I can grumble about my health or I can rejoice that I am alive.

Today I can lament over all that my parents didn't give me when I was growing up or I can feel grateful that they allowed me to be born.

Today I can cry because roses have thorns or I can celebrate that thorns have roses.

Today I can mourn my lack of friend or I can excitedly embark upon a quest to discover new relationships.

Today I can whine because I have to go to work or I can shout for joy because I have a job to do.

Today I can complain because I have to go to school or eagerly open my mind and fill it with rich new tidbits of knowledge.

Today I can murmur dejectedly because I have to do housework or I can feel honored because the Lord has provide shelter for my mind, body and soul.

Today stretches ahead of me, waiting to be shaped. And here I am, the sculptor who gets to do the shaping.

What today will be like is up to me. I get to choose what kind of day I will have!

Have a GREAT DAY……unless you have other plans."

This Moment

I may never see tomorrow, there's no written guarantee,
And things that happened yesterday belong to history,
I can not predict the future, I can not change the past,
I have just the present moment, I must treat it as my last,

I must use this moment wisely for it soon will pass away,
and be lost forever as part of yesterday,
I must exercise compassion, help the fallen to their feet,
Be a friend unto the friendless, make an empty life complete,

The unkind things I do today may never be undone,
And friendships that I fail to win may nevermore be won,
I may not have another chance on bended knees to pray,
and thank God with a humble heart for giving me this Day.

A Time To Believe

To believe is to know that
every day is a new beginning.
It is to trust that miracles happen,
and dreams really do come true.

To believe is to see angels
dancing among the clouds,
To know the wonder of a stardust sky
and the wisdom of the man in the moon.

To believe is to know the value of a nurturing heart,
The innocence of a child's eyes
and the beauty of an aging hand,
for it is through their teachings we learn to love.

To believe is to find the strength
and courage that lies within us
When it is time to pick up
the pieces and begin again.

To believe is to know
we are not alone,
That life is a gift
and this is our time to cherish it.

To believe is to know
that wonderful surprises are just
waiting to happen,
And all our hopes and dreams are within reach.

If only we believe.

MY MIRACLE

How does one measure a miracle?
What kind of gauge does one use?
Should miracles be stupendous and grand,
Breathtaking, enormous, and huge?
Must the colors be vivid and shockingly bright?
What volume of sound should one hear?
Are miracles crafted of pure solid gold,
Or fashioned of jewels so dear?
How will I know if I've seen one?
Will there be angels flying around?
Will the sun be brilliantly shining?
Will I see stars and a moon beaming down?
Where do I look for my miracle?
How will I know one is near?
A simple answer then came to me,
"Dear child, just look in a mirror."

Found myself

Today I found a friend
who knew everything I felt.
She knew my weakness
and the problems I've been dealt.

She understood my wonders
and listened to my dreams,
She listened to how I felt about life and love
and knew what it all means.

Not once did she interrupt me
or tell me I was wrong
She understood what I was going through
and promised she'd stay long.

I reached out to this friend,
to show her that I care
to pull her close and let her know
how much I need her there.

I went to hold her hand
to pull her a bit nearer
and I realized this perfect friend I found
was nothing but a mirror.

Touched By An Angel

My soul was touched by an angel
Bringing me comfort and peace;
In the still hours of the night
I felt the day's tension release.

I was so aware of her presence
Heard the flutter of tiny wings;
I felt such joy in my heart,
By the love a sweet angel brings.

She soothed my furrowed brow
With a gentle touch on my face;
Whispering words of love
She was truly my saving grace.

The worries of the day receded
As the angel drew close to me,
And from the light of the moon
Her beautiful face I could see.

The radiance of her smile,
Was such a breathtaking sight;
I felt so safe in her presence,
As she softly whispered "Goodnight".
